Remember that "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing" follows "All in Love is Fair" on "Songs In the Key Of Life," so we needed a big laugh to kick it off.

That's one of the things I miss most about the concept of an album. Nowadays a CD is 1 or 2 good songs surrounded by bullshit skits and things that just don't flow. Back when I was a kid, you put on an album and it had a concept that followed through each song to evoke a feeling and/or tell a story.

Ever notice that Stevie always put his happiest songs right after his most depressing sad songs on his albums?odienatorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10926978706604468636noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14169925.post-13736266903182250142014-05-16T12:05:22.398-04:002014-05-16T12:05:22.398-04:00A few years back, I was out with a bunch of Wonder...A few years back, I was out with a bunch of Wonder-ignorant friends on a Friday night. We were rolling out of downtown Minneapolis, listening to the radio when "Don't You Worry 'bout a Thing" came on. The reaction from my buds as that crazy, rooster-calling, Spanish-speaking, intro rolled in was "What is this?!" (and not in a good way). I made the mistake of blurting out "That's Stevie Wonder!" when I clearly should have gone with "I love this song!" (what can I say, I was excited because my love for it is much like yours), which led to a chorus of groans from every seat but mine. I implored them to not switch the station, and the driver begrudgingly let me win under the guise of "giving it a chance." Unashamedly, I began happily singing along with it, just as my bros had been doing with all of their faves (most of which were current hits that I'd never even heard before) prior to Stevie taking the stage. By the time the chorus came around for a third time, the rest of the guys had joined in. I hopped over to singing the vocal harmony parts and shouting out those hits on the cymbal during the chorus. Like so many, those guys had absolutely no clue about the monster that is Stevie Wonder until that moment. When it was over, the entire car was smiling and laughing. I can't remember what song came on next, but I do remember that it was a major let down after Stevie, and that those few minutes with "Don't You Worry 'bout a Thing" were absolutely the peak of our evening.haggiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02180520069575646227noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14169925.post-86963211988971099432014-05-15T12:31:06.841-04:002014-05-15T12:31:06.841-04:00Sorry I deleted my first comment, I forgot to put ...Sorry I deleted my first comment, I forgot to put my blog in there.
